Calling all pork lovers. This is seriously delicious stuff. Mr Crackles has opened in Melbourne and it’s what pork dreams are made of. They have slabs of juicy pork topped with crispy crackling. They’re serving up pork rolls, pork loaded fries, pork salads, you get the idea. If I had to choose one word to describe this place it would be drool.

Always a line out the front, but it moves quickly so no matter.

As you walk in there is an abundance of golden crispy crackling just waiting to be eaten. When you’ve got a group eating the crackling all you can hear is crunch, crunch, crunch. True story and that’s a good indication of a great time.

First up I chose the ‘crackles classic’ and as I took each bite I was smiling from ear to ear. The bread was fresh and had a good chew, the chunks of pork were generous and super moist with crispy crackling on top and creamy mayo. The viet salad was fresh with cucumber and pickled carrot which balanced out the oil factor. Loved it.

The char siew roll was all things amazing. The sweet honey bbq pork belly was marinated in that glaze but wasn’t too sweet. It was cut into thin slices and was served in a soft bun with pickled salad, crispy shallots on top and spring onions. I was surprised at how well balanced these dishes are. When I think of slabs of pork I imagine a lot of fat and oiliness but at Mr crackles they know how to treat a pig right and balance those flavours. I was really impressed with how not oily it seemed.

We had to get the bogan loaded fries on the side. And yes those chips were covered in chunks of soft melt-in-your-mouth juicy pork with crispy crackling. Also there was cheese and gravy because why not? These were awesome.

The bogan roll is as indulgent as it gets. A soft bread roll with chips (carbs on carbs yass) with juicy pork (with crackling of course), melted cheese and pork gravy. Amazing.

It’s probably not the best place to take your vegetarian friends but if you’ve got a vegetarian friend that wants to come play, they have a great vegetarian roast pumpkin roll with rocket, tahini and chili. I love that they have that option. My friend was prepared to be a good sport and just watch us eat but there was something yummy for her on the menu too. Yay!

I heart Mr Crackles!
