Light years café is a gorgeous space with high ceilings, lots of natural sunlight and greenery. The kind of setting you want to eat brunch around. They have an exciting menu with things you’ve never had before. Even you’re avo is not just smashed, it’s pixelated. That’s right, we’re light years ahead now and smashed avo is a thing from the past. There are lots of great choices on the menu that will get you curious and leave you satisfied.

Waffle chips. These were a good starter.

When we saw fried haloumi, we had to order it. It was lightly crumbed and fried.

These little takoyaki balls were tasty with thin slices of spring onion and bonito flakes on top.

The Pixel avocado was all over insta when they first opened and it makes sense, it looks amazing. The diced avo was served on a slice of toasted sourdough with a poached egg. Then on the side there was a bright green edamame hummus, pickled radish, a grilled lime and air-dried kale that looked like sails on a boat.

The miso scrambled eggs were light and fluffy and were topped with some seaweed and nori, it was a flavourful umami hit. Placed around the plate was Australian shitake mushrooms, grilled baby corn and milk bread sticks which were like super crunchy buttery bread soldiers.

The matcha waffle was fabulous. There was a lot going on but the flavours balanced well. The waffles had a good amount of matcha (not too bitter) and was topped with a popping candy matcha space soil. There were lemon cheesecake balls which were coated in chocolate, spots of strawberry coulis, fresh berries and a dark chocolate sauce drizzled over the top. It was pretty epic and utterly delicious.

The breakfast bun is popular and I’ll be back for that one. Saw these beauties on the way out. They were brioche buns with chive scrambled eggs, crispy bacon, jarlsberg cheese, spinach, gentlemens relish and truffled caramelised onions. Why oh why didn’t I order this too. Total food envy.

A beautiful place for brunch in Hawthorn.

I heart Light Years Cafe!
