Cecconi's - Flinders Lane, Melbourne

Fancy Italian food, fine wine and fondant come to mind when I think of Cecconi’s. They are well-known for their Italian food and wine in Melbourne and are located down Flinders lane near Exhibition street. They have mouth-watering pastas, quality meats and a comprehensive wine list you will be happy to peruse. It’s a classic restaurant for quality Italian food and a night of fine wine.

Bit fancy inside. I love the big low hanging lights.

The mushroom arancini had a good golden crunch on the outside and the rice inside had absorbed the mushroom flavour well. They were served with a garlic aioli which went perfectly. A good starter.

The pappardelle with beef and pork ragu was delicious. The pasta was cooked perfectly and the ragu had a good meaty, red wine flavour.

The house-made tagliatelle had a lovely porcini mushroom ragu which was slow cooked with white wine and sage.

The seafood linguine was dreamy. Each piece of seafood on the plate was remarkable, there were big juicy king prawns, scallops, mussels, a large piece of salmon and whiting and it was all cooked to perfection. The pasta was cooked aldente and the sauce was rich and flavourful. It had garlic, herbs, it was buttery and had a touch of chilli. This was definitely a situation where the bread came in handy to soak up the rest of that sauce.

The warm soft-centred chocolate pudding is a must for the chocolate lovers out there. When you place your spoon through the exterior, at first it has a crisp crumbly texture, which reveals the soft rich chocolate pudding underneath and then you reach the gooey chocolate centre that oozes out like a melted chocolate river onto the plate. It was paired with a creamy fior di latte gelato which added that light creaminess that the rich chocolate fondant needed. So good.

I like that they do half bottles of wine because sometimes you want a nice wine but not too much of it. Cecconi's is a great place for quality Italian food and fine wine.

I heart Cecconi’s!
