Mork Chocolate Brew House

When the weather is cold and you need something comforting, a hot chocolate will almost always do the trick. Mork is an Australian hot chocolate brand and they have a chocolate brewhouse in North Melbourne where you can try their specialty hot chocolates with some indulgent cakes to match. They play on native flavours and use local Australian produce which makes it more of a hot chocolate experience.

It’s a small store so travel lightly, and by lightly, I mean just bring one friend for better chances on getting a seat.

Nothing warms the soul like a campfire toasted marshmallow and Mork’s ‘campfire’ hot chocolate is a clever beverage that embodies the Australian culture of camping in the outback and sitting around a campfire and toasting marshmallows with you nearest and dearest. It’s a 70% dark hot chocolate served with maple smoke, charcoal salt and a toasted house-made marshmallow.

The ‘layered’ hot chocolate had a beetroot raspberry crisp on top which we were told to eat first, it was sweet and earthy which got us excited about the drink. The layer of aerated beetroot and raspberry custard on top mirrored that sweet and earthy taste but had a lovely creamy texture.

The cakes were made by a company called Dot and they were inspired by Australian locally sourced ingredients. If you’re like me and are a sucker for a good chocolate cake, you will love the layered chocolate cake of ganache and sponge. Each mouthful was exquisite and keeps you wanting more.

The almond honey cake was a mini honey bundt cake with chocolate in the middle. So yummy the honey flavour was prominent and the almond cake texture was wonderful.

Finally I had to try the Florentine. I had never seen such an attractive Florentine in my life. The bottom was shiny and crisp like tempered chocolate, the peanuts were finely sliced and sat in formation covered in a sticky toffee caramel. Delish.

I heart Mork!
