Upstairs on the balcony in the middle of the city sipping an Aperol spritz was my first impression of Yokocho. Knowing that we were about to eat a Japanese feast was the next thing on my mind. A casual venue in the city for good Japanese food and tasty cocktails.

They have a range of interesting cocktails. Harjuku girl was a good one with four pillars gin, lychee puree and lime juice, they do a good aperol spritz or you can also order a sweet Japanese plum wine.

The sashimi was fresh and delicious. Always a good starter. We had the  kinfish, salmon and tuna.

The Yukke was gorgeous and probably my favourite dish. It was like a beef tartare with egg yolk in the middle and lotus root chips to eat it with. It was dressed in a light sweet soy. It was amazing.

The california roll was the prettiest I’ve seen. It looked like a colour wheel, it had all of the colours of the rainbow in each bite: salmon, tuna, egg, avo, crab meat, mayo and flying fish roe.

The salmon avocado roll was fabulous too. Sometimes the simple dishes shine bright and this did just that.

Now who doesn’t love something deep fried. We had the assorted tempura next. The prawns were big and juicy, the vegetables were tender and the batter was light and crispy. It was served with a warm soy and daikon broth.

We had the Yakitori favourites which is an assortment of BBQ meat or veg on a stick. They had chicken, pork belly and beef but the chicken and leek and asparagus wrapped in bacon were my faves.

The restaurant is upstairs so look out for the cube outside that says Yokocho. It’s a good Japanese restaurant to pop by in the city especially when you can hang out in the sunshine on the breezy balcony drinking cocktails.
I heart Yokocho!
