Rock sugar isn’t your typical Thai restaurant. They're more hip than traditional but the flavours still pack a punch. They have your well-known curries like green and massaman and also have a range of interesting starters like Sriracha butter corn, red nam jim chicken ribs and massaman lamb spring rolls. Sharing is the way to go with their range of small bites all the way up to their main larger plates. They also have some awesome cocktails available, fairy floss martini anyone?

The Fairy floss martini (fluffed not stirred) was delicious. We had the vanilla one which was a delight. You get a martini glass filled with fairy floss and a test tube of vodka, then pour the vodka over the fairy floss and watch it dissolve into a puddle of pink, quite the spectacle.

The Sriracha butter corn on the cob corn was creamy and spicy with mint, coriander, chilli salt and cheese sprinkled on top.

Can’t go past the fried chicken ribs especially when they are cooked with red nam Jim, lemongrass and chilli caramel. The skin was crispy and the meat was moist.

The Hiramasa kingfish was sliced thinly with even thinner slices of cucumber, radish, chilli and pops of salmon roe.

Saltgrass lamb spring rolls with massaman coconut cream was an inventive dish that totally works. All the flavour of lamb massaman curry packed into a convenient hand held spring roll. Genius.

The chicken and prawn dumplings were juicy and were topped with fresh spring onions, crispy shallots and chilli relish which intensified the flavours.

Green curry is a Thai classic and they do it well wiith chicken, eggplant, crunchy green beans, young bamboo and a side of fluffy coconut rice.
