Tinker - Northcote
Tinker - Northcote

The beautiful dishes that come from the Tinker kitchen will make you want to take out your phone and insta your food right away. They say you eat with your eyes and I can tell you that my eyes were drooling. The plating was spectacular and the flavours that followed were as bright and colourful as the plating. Rainbows and unicorns and brunching at Tinker, all things that will brighten up your day.

Tinker - Smashed peas

Move over smashed avo, smashed peas are in town. This was a delicious balance of flavours and while smashed peas may sound a bit on the healthy side, I can assure you this dish had bags of flavours. The smashed peas were served on sourdough with feta, black quinoa, haloumi, yoghurt and a poached egg. The plate was brushed with a bright beetroot borani labne, which was delicious and made the plate pop with colour.

Eggs bene is always a winner. The hollandaise was dripping down the poached eggs which were sitting on slices of avocado and big crispy sweet potato rostis. We also opted for the addition of juicy mushrooms on the side.

Tinker - Jaffa hotcakes
Tinker - Jaffa hotcakes

The jaffa hotcakes had a beautiful light floral orange flavour from the orange blossom curd and syrup. The hotcakes were topped with fresh strawberries and vanilla mascarpone and had delicate dark chocolate swirled meringue kisses scattered around the bowl. The flavours of jaffa were definitely there but were very subtle so I feel like even the jaffa haters out there might like this one.

Tinker - Mango & saffron pannacotta

Lastly we had the mango and saffron pannacotta. People were ordering it around us and you can’t help but be captivated by the alluring yellow colour. It had a lovely mango flavour and was light, fresh and easy to eat. The pannacotta was surrounded with vanilla, almond and cranberry granola, strawberries, passionfruit, raspberry & coconut. The granola gave this dish a lovely crunch and all the flavours in combination were tropical and tasted like paradise. It tastes like summer, even on a cold winters day.

Tinker is one of those brunch places where if you go at prime time it’s likely you will have to wait a little while for a table. But it’s worth the wait. The colourful dishes are sure to brighten your day.

I heart Tinker!
